DEI For The People:

A Brave Community Workshop

Brave Community is a method that I developed and use specifically to help people  feel like we can talk (and learn and change their minds) about difficult subject matter, in community .  When I first conceived of it, my aim was to support people like me, who taught about race/racism in universities. Over the last decade, I’ve seen the BC method prove helpful not just in university classrooms, but also K-12 classrooms. It has been used among faculty, teachers and administrators; museums big and small; nonprofit and for profit leaders; community rooms; Board rooms. Folks find BC helpful whenever they must steer difficult discussions among diverse people.

A FOCUS ON PRACTICE: If you are looking for a place to sit back and listen, this practice-based workshop is not the place for you.

This five-part workshop is interactive, with opportunities and expectations that we practice together and in real life. Our success as a learning community–especially a virtual one, relies on our engagement, so come ready to engage.

The series will include an interactive workshop about what Brave Community (BC) is, how I came up with it, how it works; time to practice using fictional case studies; an opportunity to practice “in the wild” and report back; ample time for discussions and questions throughout. Above all, you will have a time set aside each week to learn, grown and be in community.  By the end of the series, you will learn a new tool for facilitation and feel better equipped to have hard but necessary conversations about the problems we need to solve together.

  • It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world.
